STK 3688 1974 Albany
The original Albany was an American car produced from 1907 to 1908 by the Albany Automobile Company in Albany, IN. Approximately 850 Albanys were manufactured as two models - the Surrey and the Runabout - and were powered by single or two cylinder motors. Seats were upholstered in elephant hide and guaranteed for life. This Albany Roadster replicar is a reincarnation of that classic nameplate that was manufactured in 1974 by the Albany Motor Carriage Company (AMCC) of Christchurch, UK. It was not intended to be an exact replica of the original Albany and actually looks more like a 1908 Buick Runabout. However, this new Albany Roadster, titled as a 1974 model, incorporated a wealth of mechanical improvements and features. A total of 110 cars were produced by AMCC and according to records only 12 were exported to the United States - fewer than a handful can be accounted for today. This partially restored Albany Roadster replicar is very much as delivered from the factory, albeit with some wonderful patina. It is outstanding. The solid body is finished in two-tone Blue/Black and the folding canvas top is in excellent condition. There are oak firewall panels, brass headlight/trim, single windshield wiper and a pair of beautiful brass kerosene cowl lamps. A spare tire is also mounted in the rear. The interior is upholstered in black vinyl (not elephant hide) and the owner has added a classic wooden wheel. There is an oak dash, working speedometer and controls that are basically the same as any modern-day automobile.
In true English tradition, power is furnished by a 1300cc Triumph SC 4-cylinder OHV powerplant that is equipped with a single Zenith Stromberg carburetor and rated at 75hp. It is mated to a Triumph 4-speed manual gearbox and electrics are 12-volt negative ground. The suspension utilizes a solid front axle with transverse semi-elliptical leaf springs and the rear suspension consists of a live axle and semi-elliptical springs. The chassis is equipped with hydraulic 4-wheel drum brakes and beautiful 21” aluminum spoke wheels mount Dunlop 4-50 'balloon' tires, an upgrade from the solid rubber tires that were used on the original US model. This Albany Roadster is a wonderful tribute to the 'brass era' automobile that can be used for touring and/or display. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
