409ci W-Series Muncie 4 Speed Manual w/ Hurst Comp+ Shifter
STK 3627 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 Tribute
One of Chevrolet's best looking full-size models, this stylish Maroon hardtop is striking from any angle. Based on the data tag, we believe that the Chevy was an Impala Super Sport from the factory, but was not likely an 'SS/409'. The engine has a block casting number that was used in the '63-'64 models and casting numbers on other major drivetrain component do not coincide with a '62 '409' model. That said, the restoration appears to have been professionally done. The exterior is straight and solid and the respray of Honduras Maroon (original code 948 color) is in very good condition. It is accented by nice chrome, rear fender skirts and steel wheels (14x6”) with SS 'knock-off hub' style wheel covers w/800x14 bias-ply whitewall tires. The SS interior is an invitation to go back in time. Black vinyl upholstery, carpeting, headliner and door panels are all in very good condition. The original AM radio is in the dash and a full set of Sun gauges w/Autometer tachometer have been installed.
As stated above, horsepower is furnished by the famous 409ci 'W-Series' engine. The 2x4 intake manifold is a GM piece and the dual Carter AFB carburetors appear to be correct for a 409 engine, however there are no carb ID tags (the rear carb has idle adjustments and a heat choke, which was common). The valve train appears to be managed by flat-tappet hydraulic lifters and exhaust is routed through tube headers. Output for these engines varied depending on compression and cam, but most dual-quad motors were conservatively rated at 380-409hp and 425lb/ft. It is backed by a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission that is fitted with a Hurst Comp+ shifter. The chassis is equipped with power steering and 4-wheel manual drum brakes. There is a new fuel tank and the suspension is front/rear coil springs with a rear 'Panhard bar'. This '62 Impala Super Sport needs to be seen to be appreciated. ALL VEHICLES SOLD “AS IS”.
